TLC’s BBQ Pitmaster Series… Was it What You Thought it Would Be?

So, I caught the first episode of TLC’s BBQ Pitmaster Series last night, and I was pretty happy with it.  Myron Mixon got a whole lot more screen time than the others did, and he sure has his way of setting the record straight!  I think maybe the extra footage of him came about as part of the original documentary Executive Producer John Markus  was working on when it originally pitched the series to TLC.  But, I could be wrong.  In any case – I spoke very briefly with Myron at last November’s Plant City Pig Jam, and it was very cool to have that opportunity.

I thought the episode as a whole was pretty effective in terms giving folks a taste (pardon the pun) of what competition BBQ is like.  From last night’s episode, I gather most would consider it a high stakes environment but one in which the competitors (Myron Mixon, Johnny Trigg, Tuffy Stone, Lee Ann Whippen, Harry Soo, and others) are quick to give credit to those who show talent and skill at any given event.

What are your thoughts on last night’s episode?  As for me… I’m looking forward to the next episode, when we get to see how things mapped out at the 2009 Murphysboro Barbecue Cook-Off.
