Team Unknown BBQ Heading to the World Food Championships

Lock up your liquor and hide your women! (Wait, reverse that…).  Team Unknown BBQ is heading to the 2012 World Food Championships featuring Man vs. Food’s Adam Richman!  The dates for this event are Nov. 1-4, 2012.

I found out this World Wide BBQ News Worthy Factoid while I was hanging out at the JW’s compound trying out some Carolina style Wing Sauce.  (Was pretty good!).

Papa Clark (AKA the Grand BBQ Poobah of the Team Unknown Clan) informed me that Team Unknown’s Grand Champion honors in Thomasville, GA this year secured their spot for the BBQ portion of the World Food Championships

The World Food Championships is the highest stakes food competition in the world. This four-day feature will showcase the best of the best squaring off to crown champions in multiple food categories. Then the category champions will meet at the Final Table to determine the World Food Champion.

As the sport of competition food has grown into a multi-million dollar industry, it can no longer be denied. Recipe challenges, barbecue festivals, chili cook-offs and the thousands of other food competitions that take place annually have grabbed the attention and imagination of millions of fans and enthusiasts. The World Food Championships will settle the score.

What’s up for grabs? $300,000 and the title of World Food Champion. Only in Vegas. Only at The World Food Championships.

World Food Championships Categories

The following categories fall under the World Food Championships for 2012:

• World Barbecue Championship
• World Open Chili Championship
• World Sandwich Championship
• World Chef Challenge
• World Side-Dish Championship
• World Burger Championship
• World Champion’s Challenge
• The Final Table

 It’s my understanding that the Final Table will pit the best of each category against each other.  Nice!  

World Food Championships: Barbecue Championship Details

The World Barbecue Championship will bring the greatest competition barbecue teams, cooks and chefs together under one Vegas sky to settle the score and name the World Barbecue Champion. The World Barbecue Champion will go on to the Final Table and see if ‘America’s Cuisine’ will rule the world.

Choosing from all the major sanctioning bodies, The World Food Championships will select 90 premier barbecue competitions. The Grand Champion of those 90 events will receive automatic invitations to enter and compete at The World Food Championships, along with 5 champions selected by the WFC Competition Committee and 5 champions selected by Just A Pinch. What will start with 100 of the best championship pitmasters across all sanctioning bodies, will end up with just one winner.

Prize Purse: $50,000
