January 20-21, 2012 - The Dundee Area Chamber of Commerce is kicking off 2012 in true BBQ Smoker style with their 1st annual Southern Smoker’s BBQ Competition – a Florida Bar-B-Que (FBA) sanctioned event guaranteed to become a series to remember!

There are a ton of top notch competition BBQ Smoker Cook Teams here in the Central Florida area.  Teams like Rub Bagby’s Swamp Boys BBQ, Team Unknown BBQ, Whiskey Bent BBQ, and Fatt Ashes BBQ are just a few of those here who are sure to be in contention for the Grand Champion honors!

This great event is sponsored by Central Florida Sports Marketing and sanctioned by the Florida BBQ Association. Sure to please the crowd, there will be chicken, pork ribs, pork and brisket available for sampling – prepped BBQ Smoker style  all day by professional and amateur competitors and judged by local hero and Auburndale Police Officer Stacy Booth!

Admission to this event is free to the public.  

Location and Details

This year’s event will be held on January 20-21, 2012 at the  Winn Dixie Plaza located at 28047 Hwy 27, Dundee, FL.    You won’t be able to miss it, because the parking lot will be BBQ Smoker central!

All on site purchase of food and beverages will be made with “Smokin’ Bucks,” that an be bought at an exchange of one buck for $1.   Be sure to get your Smokin’ Bucks right away, so you can get started enjoying all of the BBQ Smoker goodness there will be on hand!

The 2011 Pig on the Pond BBQ Competition in Cleremont, Florida was a huge success, especially for member of Unknown BBQ and Uncle Kenny’s BBQ, who took Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion honors.

There were 30 Pro Division BBQ cook team in attendance, including perennial favorites like Whiskey Bent BBQ, Git R Smoked, Florida Skin-n-BonesForrest’s Fine Foods, Big Papa’s Country Kitchen, and Hot Wachula’s to name just a few.  Competing in the 4 main categories of Chicken, Pork, Ribs, and Brisket – the ranking for this year’s Pig on the Pond BBQ competition was a follows:

As you can see from the photos below, the crowds in attendance were massive, and appetites for BBQ and family fun were running high.  As is the case with most BBQ competitions, this one is for charity – specifically, “for the kids.”  Now in its 13th year, Pig on the Pond raised $62,000 last year for children’s educational scholarship money.  Judging from the number of people I saw in attendance, they’ll meet or exceed this total for 2011.
