As BBQ grill reviews go, this one is a doosie, if only because I get to talk a bit about one of the more revered Weber gas grills on the market – the Weber 2780301 Summit S-670. Sporting 57.1 x 74.1 x 30 inches of cooking space and weighing in at a hefty 287 pounds, this bad boy ain’t your grandpa’s steak burner.

Weber 2780301 Summit S 670

Reviewers I’ve found online seem to really love the fact that the Weber 2780301 Summit S-670 comes pretty much assembled.  Work in a few screws and you’re pretty much ready to go.  Many grillers have found it a good idea to try and ramp up the size of the tank you use to accommodate all of propane burners this grill comes with. The manual specs out a 20 lb. propane, but if you can swing a 30-40 lb. tank it’s not a bad idea.  Otherwise, it’s a good idea to keep a spare tank on hand as this baby on full go will chew through some gas.

While some users find the knob and grill lights that come standard on this unit a little cheesy at first, most fess up that the lighted dials and grill lights come in very handy when the sun starts to go down a bit.   Many also seem to really like the hide-a-way rotisserie grill motor, which sits out of the way and is ready to use with just a pull of a knob.

The Grill You Get When Built-in is Not an Option

The one thing I found most interesting when researching the Weber 2780301 Summit S-670 grill is the fact that it gets positive reviews for features and benefits normally seen on reviews for built in grills.  Being a free standing gas grill, the Weber Summit S-670 sports a separate smoker box for added smoked BBQ flavor, a searing station, and a very nifty rotisserie.  The smoker box actually gets a ton of props from users who mix it with a Weber Pizza Stone in order to achieve that classic wood burning oven style pizza.

Weber Style 6430 Pizza Stone

Subbing out a built in gas grill, which could cost up to $15,000 when you add in the other outdoor support features is a pretty viable option with the Weber Summit.  One reviewer had a great plan to hook up his house propane line to the grill.  However, the gas connector that comes with this model is made specifically to hook up to a propane tank, not to a house line.  After some time, money, and a little sweat equity, he finally got the grill hooked up to the house line.  I’d agree that this level of grill should at least come with an option for main line hook ups.  Probably something Weber could stand to consider.

Overall, users of this grill are very happy with its performance – rating it at excellent. The seer station is perfect for steak, chops or burgers, and the burner for the rotisserie receives consistently high marks.

Video Resources

It’s always nice to get some video of a product when you’re trying to decide if it will work for you.  Here are a few videos I found to be most informative.

It’s a short video, but check out the shot of those birds on that sweet and nearly silent rotisserie!  Also, note how the rotisserie motor pops up and down for clean line storage.  That’s cool.

Check out the features of the Weber Summit S-670 in this video and tell me you don’t get a warm fuzzy feeling when you see the ease of use it provides.  The rotisserie motor makes a nice long appearance so you can see how it stows away, and man do those flavorizer bars and grill grates seem like a breeze to remove for cleaning?  Yeah, man!  High Speed Stuff!
