Kansas City Barbeque Society

Kansas City Barbeque SocietyI just got word from Marion Smith over at the Plant City, Florida Chamber of Commerce, and she told me that there are still a few treasured slots left at the coming 2009 Kansas City Barbeque Society’s (KCBS) Certified Judging School will be held one night only on Sunday, October 4, in Plant City.  You can find the Plant City KCBS Judges School Application Here.

Folks – if you’ve ever wanted to be a BBQ Competition Judge – this is THE class you need to take.  I recently signed up for a slot for the coming October class myself, and I’m stoked!  (Pardon the fire/smoke pun!)

The judges class is a four hour event running from 4:00pm- 8:00pm at Johnson’s Barbecue, 1401 West. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Plant City, 33563.   This year’s class is being hosted by Steve Smith, KCBS Master Certified Judge and Certified BBQ Judge Instructor.

The class costs $85 for non-current KCBS members, but current KCBS members only pay $55.  The good news for non-members is that the $85 includes a one-year KCBS membership.

The great thing about this BBQ Judges class being offered in October is that those who finish it can also qualify to judge at more than 200 KCBS-sanctioned contests every year.   One of these events just happens to be this year’s Plant City Pig Jam, coming up this November 21st!

Applications for this exciting event are available on the Plant City chamber web site.  For questions, please contact Marion Smith at (813) 734-3707.
