BBQ Competitions

Well folks, Mike and Kris Boisvert of Lakeside Smokers out of Methuen, MA conquered yet another 2011 KCBS Competition at this year’s Harpoon Championships of New England BBQ.  Now, this is my kind of competition!  Put on by the Harpoon Brewery in Windsor, VT, there were definitely many fine beers had during what Mike reports as a real roaster of an event!  100 degree F temps in VT!  Woah!

Final results for Lakeside Smokers were as follows:

  • 1st Place Chicken
  • 11th Place Ribs
  • 4th Place Pork
  • 6th Place Brisket
Another great KCBS win, as there were some true competitors in this field of 40 professional BBQ cook teams including BBQ Guru, I Que BBQ, and Smokin’ Hoggz BBQ.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Lakeside Smokers is presently ranked 5th among the 206 competing Pros on the New England Barbecue Society circuit.  Not too shabby!
You can find the complete results on the Kansas City Barbeque Society Event Page.

It’s a great pleasure to announce on this blog that Lakeside Smokers out of Methuen, MA took Grand Championship honors at the 2011 Troy Pigout in Troy, NY.  I reference this KCBS victory here because I’ve followed Mike Boisvert’s Lakeside Smokers Blog now for some time.  This event was a 4th annual, and it seems like a doozie.  Great setting.. and KILLER trophy!  Check it out!  (Yeah, I mean the Pig!)

Chad Ward of Whiskey Bent BBQ and I were just talking yesterday about how we wish more event coordinators would move away from sports style trophies and get more innovative.  Well, hell!  What’s cooler than a life size pig statue to take home and show off?   Yes, they had the sports trophy as well… but many competitors I know would just as soon leave that on the table!  (Ask Rub Bagby of Swamp Boys BBQ Team about his Alligator!)

Overall Finishes for Lakeside Smokers

  • 8th in Chicken
  • 9th in Ribs
  • 1st in Pork
  • 1st in Brisket

Those last two first place finishes clearly did the damage!  Awesome.

Congrats to Mike and his wife on this win!  With a total of $8,000 in prize money, this is an event that is sure to keep going for some time!

Lakeside Smokers Blog

Back to the work Mike does on his Lakeside Smokes blog.  It’s been a staple in my Google Reader list of BBQ Blogs for some time now. Whether he’s talking about various BBQ Events, trips to his favorite restaurants, and very well written and photographed recipes.

Check it out.  You’ll always find something to comment on, share, or think about!
