BGE Pit Crew Takes 2nd in Backyard Division – 2009 Plant City Pig Jam

Recently, while attending this year’s Plant City Pig Jam  – KCBS BBQ Competition, I had the opportunity to meet up with the BGE Pit Crew from Lutz, Florida  – and it was a blast.  Team members Dana and Sheri Kress, and Craig Bobik were there with family in tow, and had several Big Green Egg Smokers up and running.  They took 2nd Place in the 2009 Plant City Pig Jam Backyard Division, and it was awesome that they had the whole fan damily there to share in that feat.

I love the Big Green Egg Smoker, and I hope to own one one day.  They’re just cool.  I noticed that Lee Ann Whippen, who will be featured as part of TLC’s BBQ Pitmasters series uses ‘em.

Back to the BGE Pit Crew.  I had a great visit with these guys, Dana was kind enough to provide me with some samples of their ribs, chicken, pork, and brisket.  This stuff was very good, folks.  Their meat preparation and just the right amount of smoke flavor (I’ll let Dana fill you in on the wood he uses if he’s so inclined) makes for a hell of a good final product.  Obviously, it was good enough to take 2nd in the Backyard Division!  And, as I mentioned, they do their smoking on Big Green Eggs.

Bottom line, these guys are going to be getting calls in BBQ competitions on a regular basis.  If you have the chance to meet them at a FBA or KCBS cook off, take it.  Your stomach will thank you!
